Police have identified the victim of a home invasion in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY — Law enforcement investigating a fatal burglary shooting has identified the victim as Craig L. Scott, 51, of Lee’s Summit, according to a police statement.

The suspect in the investigation was identified as Keith J. Marshall, 31, of Kansas City, Missouri. On Saturday, the Jackson County prosecutor charged the defendants with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree burglary and unlawful use of a weapon; bail was set at $250,000 cash.

Just after 8am. On Friday, police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 2100 block of SW Rutherford Drive. A 911 caller reported that a man later identified as Scott had been shot at the residence. The interlocutor also indicated that the suspect was a person known to him. When officers entered the home, they found Scott, who was dead. The perpetrator fled the scene before the police arrived and handed himself in to the police a few hours later. Detectives are also working to establish a timeline of events leading up to the shooting.
