Ludhiana: Tiff over a beer bottle caused the death of a 19-year-old man

Police officials say three attackers have been arrested and two others are on the run; deceased Kamaljeet Singh alias Kamal, a resident of Mohalla Adarsh ​​Nagar, was attacked for “forcing” the accused to buy him a bottle of beer.

On Saturday evening, a 19-year-old man was beaten to death by his friend and four accomplices following an argument over the purchase of a bottle of beer near Ludhiana railway station. The victim, identified as Kamaljeet Singh alias Kamal, a resident of Mohalla Adarsh ​​Nagar, was rushed to Ludhiana Civil Hospital. He was later referred to Christian Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police reported that three attackers had been arrested.

Police of Branch No. 1 registered an FIR under section 103 section 2 (murder committed by a group of five or more people), Art. 191 (riots) and art. 3 section 5 (act committed with common intention) of the BNS Act.

The arrested persons have been identified as Happy Rajput (19), Shiva (18) and Ankit (22), residents of Santpura on the Dhuri line. Two others – Sandeep and Sunil – are said to be at large.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Central Anil Kumar Bhanot said Kamal and his friends were roaming around the city late at night and consuming alcohol. At around 1 a.m. they reached near the railway station where Kamal met his friend Happy Rajput sitting on his bike. According to reports, Kamal asked Happy to buy him a bottle of beer. Although Happy initially agreed, he later refused and joined his friends Sandeep and Sunil by car.

When Kamal followed Happy, an argument broke out, leading to a heated exchange of words. The accused then attacked Kamal with sticks which they kept in the vehicle. Kamal’s friends initially tried to intervene, but as the violence escalated, they fled. The attackers left Kamal unconscious before escaping.

ACP added that the search for the remaining accused is ongoing.
