4 teenagers and 1 adult charged in the beating death of an Atkinson County teenager

PEARSON, Ga. (WALB) – A teenager has died after being beaten in Atkinson County.

According to Chief Knapik of the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office, on the afternoon of Saturday, October 12, five people, including four juveniles, beat to death a 16-year-old teenager, identified as Darion Davis, on Cara Loop Street in Pearson.

According to Pearson Police Chief Tanner Farmer, one of the suspects had been arguing with Davis regarding a previous case in which both were arrested for crimes about two years ago. This, in turn, led to a fatal assault incident.

According to Atkinson County Coroner Relihan, Davis was taken to a local hospital but later died at a hospital in Savannah, Georgia. His body was taken to the crime lab for an autopsy.

Chief Knapik told WALB the suspects are 21-year-old Ne’miah Jones, 17-year-old Verntron White, two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old.

All of them were charged with the following:

  • Felony murder
  • Aggravated attack
  • Deteriorated battery

White is charged as an adult.

White and Jones are currently in the Atkinson County Jail, and the three teenagers are in a juvenile detention center.
