FARGO — State troopers arrested two people for driving under the influence in separate afternoon incidents on Interstate 94 this weekend, and one suspect also faces assault and other charges.

In both cases, drivers were removed from the roadway after other drivers noticed the danger and called law enforcement, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release.

During the first incident, which occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, an officer responded to a report of a vehicle driving recklessly on eastbound I-94.

The officer stopped the vehicle about four miles east of Medina and identified the driver as Angelo White, 37, of New Town, North Dakota.

It was determined that White was under the influence of alcohol; The patrol said that during the arrest, White attacked the officer for several minutes until help arrived.

The patrol said a Foster County sheriff’s deputy stopped to help and was also attacked by White. Other troopers and Stutsman County deputies arrived minutes later and White was arrested.

White faces misdemeanor and felony charges including DUI, two counts of simple assault on an officer, resisting arrest, exposure to bodily fluids against law enforcement and driving with a suspended license. He is being held in the Stutsman County Jail.

The state trooper suffered minor injuries and is recovering at home, the patrol said.

In an unrelated incident, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday, an officer responded to another report of a reckless vehicle traveling east on I-94, this time approximately two miles east of Casselton.

The patrol said that driver was arrested for DUI without incident.
