A Utah prison inmate dies almost two weeks after attempting suicide

SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah prison inmate whose story was covered by the FOX 13 investigative team last week has died.

The Utah Department of Corrections said Michael Bueno was taken off life support and died Saturday. On November 11, he attempted suicide in a Salt Lake City prison.

Bueno it is the second suicide of an inmate in two weeks in prisonwhich opened in 2022 and cost $1 billion.

Both families said their loved ones asked the prison for further mental health help and did not receive it.

The Department of Corrections medical director told FOX 13 that tests will be performed.

Bueno was 44 years old and serving a sentence for sodomy. The family said his organs would be donated.
