Fresno police officer shot in return, suspect dead

A Fresno Police officer was involved in a shooting at the 3700 Block of East Platt Avenue.

According to Chief Mandy Casto, there was a shooting visit on 8th Street. and Verrue streets.

The officers went to the site and began investigating.

About an hour later, a sergeant was parked at the scene when the shooting suspect returned and, for an unknown reason, opened fire on the patrol.

The sergeant was sitting in the patrol unit when he was hit. Even though he was shot, he began chasing the suspect vehicle. The chase lasted only a block when the suspect crashed.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and began shooting again. The injured officer and two other patrol units returned fire.

The officers shot the suspect, he fell to the ground, then secured him and provided assistance to both the suspect and the sergeant. Both were taken to the trauma unit at Regional Community Medical Center.

The injured policeman was hit in the lower part of the body, his condition is stable.

The suspect died.

Earlier, the officers secured a video recording from the house, which shows the suspect leaving the house with a gun.

One officer called two ambulances, one for the “It’s Down” suspect and one for himself, before calling 1199.

While securing one of the four crime scenes, officers went to the house from which the suspect was seen leaving. They broke down the door and discovered that a person had been shot on Verrue Street. The victim is believed to be from the first spotter trip at 5:20 p.m

The suspect fired an AR-type pistol.

Chief Casto said the sergeant showed incredible courage and calmness while accepting fire.
