Three people died in Ohio City, the shooting suspect may have committed suicide

VAN WERT COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – A release from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office says a man committed suicide after killing two other people.

At around 8 a.m., a person called their office saying that a friend had confessed to killing his girlfriend and another man. The caller said the friend also said he was going to kill himself.

Deputies then met with the individual and obtained more information by speaking with several other individuals.

The release said they then entered the Ohio City home to check on the resident’s welfare.

After entering the home, officers found a woman and a man who died from gunshot wounds.

The Van Wert Sheriff’s Office says the two victims are 29-year-old Shelby M. Coats of Ohio City and 30-year-old Andrew C. Lause of Delphos.

Police then say they found a car at another residence belonging to Paul A. Boldman, 51, of Ohio City.

After obtaining a warrant to enter the residence, officers found Boldman suffering from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was still alive, so he was immediately removed from his residence and handed over to Van Wert EMS.

Boldman was transported to Ohio Health Van Wert, where he was later pronounced dead.

Agents with the Ohio Bureau of Investigation assisted in processing the scene. The Van Wert County Coroner’s Office and troopers from the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted in the incident.
