The victims, identified as Vivek, Amit and a third person, who has not been named yet, were traveling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding. Relying on Google Maps for navigation, their vehicle unknowingly approached an incomplete overpass. Unaware of the danger, they drove into the structure, which ended abruptly, sending the car plunging 50 feet into the river below.

Locals discover the wreck

The tragedy came to light the next morning when locals noticed the mangled remains of the car in a shallow riverbed. Authorities were immediately alerted and police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies and initiated an investigation.

“At around 9:30 a.m. we were informed about a damaged car found in the Ramganga River,” a police spokesman said. “Our team discovered an R wagon, possibly a taxi, that had fallen off an incomplete bridge. The bodies of the victims were found and sent for autopsy. While two persons have been identified as Vivek and Amit, efforts are on to confirm the identity of the third victim,” the official added.

Family asks questions about neglect

The devastated family members of the deceased criticized the local authorities, accusing them of negligence. They wondered why the bridge under construction lacked adequate barricades or warning signs to prevent such accidents.

“Officials must be held accountable for this negligence. Why was the bridge left unfinished and why were no safety measures taken?” – asked the relative. They called for a formal inquiry and insisted on lodging an FIR against the building department concerned.
