Perspective

A woman who was subjected to female genital mutilation as a child spoke to FRANCE 24 about the violence and torture she was forced to endure. Leyla Hussein is a psychotherapist who currently specializes in supporting people who have experienced sexual abuse. She grew up in Somalia, where she underwent female genital mutilation at the age of seven. It was only when she moved to London and gave birth to her first child that she realized what had happened to her. She spoke to us at Perspective as part of our coverage of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
