Arrest following fatal collision in Eugene in 2022

On June 26, 2022, at 12:30 p.m., a fatal accident occurred near 1082 Hwy 99N in Eugene. Curtis Dewayne Smith, 45, was traveling well over the speed limit in a Dodge 2500 pickup truck north on Highway 99.

Diane Marie Davis, 62, was driving a Toyota RAV 4 with her adult daughter in the front passenger seat. They were leaving HWY 99 Cannabis at 1082 Hwy 99N. As Davis was turning south from the business parking lot into the northbound lanes, Smith struck her on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Davis subsequently died from her injuries. Her daughter and a passenger in Smith’s truck were also injured. The Lane County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and issued an arrest warrant for Smith in September 2024.

An investigator checked Smith’s location and he was listed as possibly living in another state. However, on October 25, Eugene Police officers responded to an accident at 1585 W. 7th Avenue where a vehicle was reported to have overturned on its side. Smith was one of the drivers involved in the accident. Smith was arrested on warrants for second-degree murder, third-degree assault and fourth-degree assault.
