Deontae Lawson, Alabama player, is out due to injury

Alabama football defender Deontae Lawson According to him, he will miss the rest of the 2024 season – ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports. Lawson was injured during the Crimson Tide’s game against Oklahoma on Saturday.

UA defensive coordinator Kane Wommack confirmed Lawson will miss the Iron Bowl against Auburn. Kalen DeBoer later confirmed that he would be sidelined for the entire season.

Lawson was injured in the first half of Saturday’s game in Norman. He left the field, heading towards the injury tent.

After a long stay in the tent, Lawson went to the Alabama locker room and was quickly sidelined for the rest of the game. He was seen on the bench at the end of the 24-3 defeat, wearing street clothes and limping.

Lawson plays a key role in Alabama’s defense because the radio in his helmet allows him to communicate with coaches, allowing the middle linebacker to relay signals to the rest of the team. When Justin Jefferson left Saturday’s game, he took his spot across from Jihaad Campbell.

Lawson’s absence could also impact other positions for the Tide. With Que Robinson already out for the season, not to mention the departure of Keanu Koht, UA has a slight advantage at the edge position, a spot Wommack calls “the wolf.”

In some packages, Jefferson would enter the game as a middle linebacker while Campbell would jump outside to help with the passer rush. Without Lawson, it will be more difficult from a personnel perspective.

After losing to Oklahoma, Alabama only has one game left in the regular season. The Crimson Tide will face Auburn on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
