Two people are dead after a crash in Norridgewock

NORRIDGEWOCK – A man and woman died Monday after their vehicle crashed on U.S. Route 201A in Norridgewock, authorities said.

Kyle Wyman, 31, of Madison, and a female passenger died at the scene of the crash, according to Deputy Chief Mike Mitchell of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. As of Monday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office had not identified the woman.

Somerset County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash near the intersection of Father Rasle’s Wayaround 7:15 a.m., Mitchell said.

The initial investigation revealed that Wyman, believed to be the driver, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala south on the highway when he lost control of the vehicle, veered into the oncoming lane and then left the road to the right or west on Mitchell. he said.

Mitchell said the vehicle struck a utility pole and trees before coming to rest about 40 feet from the road in a wooded area.

Mitchell said neither Wyman nor the woman were wearing seat belts and the car’s airbags deployed.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Mitchell added. Deputy Jack LePage is the lead investigator, Det. Michael Lyman reconstructs the crash, and Sgt. Joseph Jackson analyzes it forensically.

Investigators are trying to determine when exactly the crash occurred, Mitchell said.

“A resident nearby heard a really loud noise that shook his house,” Mitchell describes. “He went outside. I didn’t see anything. I went back inside. And he heard this noise about midnight.

According to Mitchell, paramedic crews from Redington-Fairview General Hospital and the Norridgewock Fire Department, along with the sheriff’s office, responded to the scene. The fire brigade was still on site at approximately 1:15 p.m
