Two people are dead after Sunday’s shooting at a Minneapolis encampment, the second fatal shooting in Minneapolis camp this weekend.

What we know

Minneapolis police responded to a report of a shooting Sunday around 2:20 p.m. along Snelling Avenue, just east of Hiawatha Avenue.

Officers on site found three victims shot in the camp: two men and one woman. According to the police, both men died on the spot, and the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Three people have been detained, but the police have not yet said whether any of them are suspected of committing a crime.

Context

Sunday’s shooting came a day after another triple shooting at another homeless camp in Minneapolis on Saturday morning.

Police responded around 4:45 a.m. to a report of shots fired at an encampment near 21st Street East and 15th Avenue South – about 3.5 miles north of Snelling shooting at Hiawatha.

At the scene, officers found three men who had been shot. One of the men later died in hospital from his injuries.

Just last month, Minneapolis got it right another series of deadly shootings in the camps resulting in the death of two men. In this case, Joshua Anthony Jones was arrested and charged with murder. Police say he was involved in all three shootings. Investigators said Jones was affiliated with the Native Mafia.
