Police say the father of missing Hawaiian woman Hannah Kobayashi was found dead in Los Angeles

(CNN) — Los Angeles police said the father of a Hawaii woman who disappeared two weeks ago was found dead on Sunday.

Ryan Kobayashi traveled to Los Angeles to help find his daughter, Hannah Kobayashi. The last contact with the 30-year-old was on November 11, after she failed to board a connecting flight to New York on November 8 while stopping at Los Angeles International Airport.

Ryan Kobayashi’s body was found around 4 a.m. Sunday on West Century Boulevard, Los Angeles police told CNN, at an address near the airport.

Police have not released any information about the 58-year-old’s probable cause of death, but Kobayashi’s family says he died by suicide.

“The Kobayashi family experienced a devastating tragedy today. After 13 days of tireless searching in Los Angeles, Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, tragically took his own life. This loss has immeasurably deepened the family’s suffering,” the family said in a statement statement released by a non-profit group helping in the search for Hannah Kobayashi.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has considered Kobayashi’s death an open case and no cause of death has been released. The records say he died in the parking lot. CNN has reached out to us for further details.

After Hannah’s disappearance, the elder Kobayashi spoke to the media on behalf of his family and asked the public for help in finding his daughter.

“Hannah loved to travel. She loved photography, art and music. I wasn’t very close to her… growing up. We haven’t had contact for a while,” Ryan Kobayashi told CNN last week. “I’m just trying to catch up. I’m trying to get her back. That is my main goal.”

In a statement, the Kobayashi family urged the public to “continue to focus on the search.”

“Hannah is still missing and is believed to be in immediate danger. It is very important that everyone remains vigilant as we try to locate Hannah,” the statement read.

The family received suspicious text messages

Kobayashi was scheduled to visit her aunt in upstate New York, her sister Sydni Kobayashi told CNN. She shared the same route as her ex-boyfriend, who, unlike Hannah, boarded a connecting flight to New York from Los Angeles.

CNN obtained a photo showing Kobayashi getting off the plane at Los Angeles International Airport. Her sister said she was spotted the next day at the Taschen bookstore in The Grove, a shopping mall in Los Angeles.

Then, according to her sister, she sent the Venmo payment to two people whose names the family did not recognize.

AND the video has been published on YouTube on November 10, featuring Kobayashi at the LeBron XXII Trial Experience, an event took place at the Nike store in the same shopping center. A photo from the event was also published there Instagram account– said her sister.

Days after the 30-year-old missed her flight, family and friends received a series of suspicious text messages from her phone.

On November 11 – the last day anyone heard from the missing woman – her mother texted her asking if she had made it to New York. Kobayashi replied no, her sister said. According to screenshots her sister sent to CNN, she also sent messages to a friend saying she didn’t feel safe and that someone was trying to steal her identity and funds.

“Deep Hackers erased my identity, stole all my funds and have been driving me crazy since Friday,” says one message to a friend.

Another message said, “I basically got scammed and gave away all my funds,” and another said, “To someone I thought I loved.”

On November 15, the Los Angeles Missing Persons Unit posted a poster announcing Kobayashi’s disappearance, saying she was last seen at the airport. This he said he has freckles on his face and a tattoo forearm.

On November 17, in a statement posted to Facebook, Sydni Kobayashi said the family had obtained surveillance footage of her sister near a downtown subway station near the Crypto.com Arena, although it is unclear when exactly the footage was recorded.

Kobayashi is not alone in the video and “appears not to be in good condition,” the family wrote on Facebook, saying they were unable to provide further details.
