MOREHOUSE PARISH, LA (KNOE) – An investigation is underway into a shooting that occurred in Morehouse Parish.

According to the Northeast Louisiana Sheriff’s Investigative Unit (NELA SIU), on November 23 at approximately 8:50 p.m., a Morehouse Parish deputy was conducting a traffic stop on Carbon Plant Road when a man armed with a handgun exited his vehicle and fled.

Initial investigations indicate that the deputy shot the suspect. The suspect was then transported to Morehouse General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

In a press release, NELA SIU stated in part: “We understand that incidents like these are of public concern and we are committed to transparency as the investigation progresses. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.”
