The accused, Pradeep Singh, was arrested on Sunday evening after he confessed to his employer over the phone. The Mumbai-based employer then informed the Delhi Police.

Investigators determined that Pradeep killed his wife – 34-year-old Neetu Singh – on November 18 or 19, suspecting her of infidelity. Unable to find a place to dump the body, he covered it with a sheet and continued to live in his truck, driving around Okhla.

Investigators said Pradeep had come to Delhi from Mumbai on November 13 to deliver supplies to a vendor in the Okhla industrial area.

“He finished the delivery and then called his wife from Hansi in Haryana to Delhi. His wife reached Delhi between November 15 and 16. Thereafter, we do not know the exact sequence of events, but according to Pradeep’s testimony, a fight broke out on November 18 or 19. The argument escalated when Pradeep accused Neetu of cheating on him,” said a senior police officer who requested anonymity.

The incident came to light when Pradeep’s employer became concerned when he stopped answering his calls and text messages. On Saturday, Pradeep finally called his employer and confessed to killing his wife. Initially believing it to be wandering around drunk, the employer sent a co-worker to check on him. A co-worker found Pradeep in the truck, noticed a strong odor and discovered the body.

He immediately informed his employer, who then contacted the Delhi Police.

The police said that there was a refrigerator in the vehicle, but the accused decided to store his wife’s body in the cabin.

A police team was dispatched to Okhla Industrial Area, Phase II, where Neetu’s body was found decomposing in a pool of blood in the cab of a truck. Pradeep was arrested on the spot.

Police said the couple was previously married and had divorced their partners. They met two-three years ago near Pradeep’s hometown in Haryana’s Hansi and soon started living together. Although there are no official records of their marriage, police reported that their children (from previous marriages) were married at the temple.

The senior officer added that Pradeep and Neetu fought in the truck for hours before Pradeep snatched Neetu’s dupatta and choked her to death. He then allegedly hid her body by placing sheets over it. For the next five to six days, he stayed with his wife’s decomposing body in the truck because he had no other accommodation.

Police stated that he was moving freely without arousing suspicion.

DCP (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh: “He was driving an Eicher refrigerated vehicle. After some time, the employer started calling him from Mumbai, but he could not be contacted. However, on Saturday he called his employer and told him that he had killed his wife. Initially, the employer thought Pradeep was bluffing because he sounded drunk. But he sent an associate to check on Pradeep.

Officers said they had no evidence as to the time of death and were currently following Pradeep’s statement, adding that they were investigating to confirm the accused’s version of events to them.

Though anti-pollution laws have been in force in Delhi since November 15, police said no commercial vehicle could be spotted as Pradeep was allegedly driving around Okhla. The police found that the accused was not driving on main roads and was being careful.

Police added that he “barely” left his vehicle and ate meals at roadside shops so he could keep an eye on his vehicle.

“Pradeep was caught outside the truck. A forensic team and forensic team were called to the spot and the crime scene was thoroughly checked,” the DCP added.

Pradeep was arrested and based on his statement, a murder case was filed against him.

The investigator quoted above said: “The police took care of the body and sent it for an autopsy to determine the exact cause and time of the woman’s death. We are waiting for the report… The accused, despite the stench emanating from the body, was traveling in the same truck.”
