DPS identifies three motorcyclists killed in southern Arizona crash; Driving under the influence was suspected

COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (AZ Family) – The Arizona Department of Public Safety has identified the three people killed in a weekend crash near Tombstone.

The four-vehicle accident occurred around 6 p.m. in the eastbound lane of State Route 80 between St. David and Tombstone.

Troopers say a red Infiniti SUV was heading east when the driver crossed the median and collided with three motorcyclists, killing all three motorcyclists.

DPS identified the victims as 55-year-old James Maurice Samuel of Maricopa, 37-year-old Anthony Odell Davis of Maricopa and 40-year-old Bennie Melvin Eugene Dansby of Glendale.

Dansby and Davis died at the scene, and Samuel was taken to a hospital in Tucson, where he later died.

The driver of the SUV was identified as a 41-year-old man from Huachuca, a city north of Sierra Vista.

Investigators believe the SUV driver’s disability was the cause of the accident. Criminal proceedings are ongoing, but his name has not yet been released.
