Fox host asks Marco Rubio if he thinks Kelly and Milley are ‘lying’

Fox News host Shannon Bream confronted the senator Marco RubioFlorida Republicanon Sunday about whether he thinks Donald Trump former chief of staff John Kelly and his former top military adviser Mark Milley “lied” by claiming the former president was a “fascist.”

Bream further asked Rubio, a staunch Trump supporter Fox News Sunday“Do you think that people like (retired U.S. Army general) General Milley, like (retired U.S. Marine general) John Kelly are they lying?”

“Yes. Yes,” the senator replied. “Let’s say you don’t want to call them a liar. “I would say that it is very doubtful that these accusations were made at the last minute, just before the elections.”

Newsweek I reached out to Rubio’s office and the Trump campaign via email for comment late Sunday afternoon. He also reached out to Georgetown University by email on Sunday afternoon seeking comment from Milley, who is a prominent figure there. Newsweek I haven’t been able to find Kelly’s contact details.

Kelly, Trump’s longest-serving chief of staff, said earlier this week New York Times that based on his experiences with the former president, Trump met the definition of a “fascist.” He also said Trump told him that “(Adolf) Hitler did some good things.”

In response, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, called Kelly’s accounts of his experiences in the Trump administration “debunking stories” and said Kelly had made himself “swayed.”

Kelly’s remarks come after The Independent and other media outlets reported that Milley, Trump’s nominee to chair the joint Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2018, called Trump a “fascist to the core” after being featured in an op-ed legendary journalist Bob Woodward’s new book, War.

Cheung said earlier Newsweek in response to Milley’s comments that the retired general is a “woke train wreck” and that “it’s no surprise that he would be friends with a fiction writer like Bob Woodward to spread lies and disinformation.”

In response to Kelly’s comments, Vice President Kamala HarrisDemocratic candidate, was asked at CNN town hall by the host Anderson Cooper earlier this month: “Do you think Donald Trump is a fascist?” To which Harris replied: “Yes. Yes, I do.”

During an interview on Fox News on Sunday, Rubio questioned Milley and Kelly’s motives for their comments, suggesting they were concerned with securing a job after their stint in the administration.

“These are people who worked in or around the (Trump) administration and realized pretty quickly that if we wanted to work after leaving this administration, we had to become anti-Trump,” the senator said.

He continued: “If you actually believed, as some of these people claim, that Donald Trump is all these abominations – Nazi, fascist, all the crazy names they throw around – why didn’t you get up and get out of it? administration the moment you heard these terms. Why did you say it then and not wait until later.

ON ABC News’ This week on Sunday, senator LindseyGrahamRepublican from South Carolina and another Trump ally, defended the former president’s character and leadership styletells co-host Jonathan Karl, “He was a strong leader on the issues that matter most, whether you like him or not, that’s up to you. He’s not a fascist, he’s not Hitler.”

He added that these retired generals are “trying to scare the American people that this man (Trump) cannot solve the problems that we need to solve. I reject it. I was there too. I was around him. “I don’t think he’s a fascist. I think he’ll be a strong president who will get the country back on track, revitalize our economy, secure our borders and put out the fires.”
