Landslides and flash floods hit Sumatra, killing 15 people

At least 15 people have been killed and seven are missing on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, where heavy rains over the weekend triggered landslides and flash floods. Rescuers are still looking for survivors.

According to the AP news agency, the deluge in North Sumatra province swept away more than 150 houses and destroyed farmlands.

Seasonal rains from October to March often cause floods and landslides in Indonesia.

Authorities warned residents in the region to be prepared for potential flooding in the coming weeks.
