Here’s a ranking of all the assault rifles in Black Ops 6 from best to worst:

The XM4 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

XM4 / Treyarch

The XM4 is the current king of Black Ops 6. There are a few things this weapon can’t do or does poorly. It is extremely versatile. It has reasonable recoil and good long-range damage, and is more than capable of competing at close to mid-range.

The XM4 currently has very few flaws.

Model L assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Model L / Treyarch

The first three items on this list are still very uncertain. Like the XM4, the Model L is extremely powerful and versatile. It can do what an AR needs to do at longer ranges, but it can handle closer ranges as well.

This is a powerful weapon that has arguments to be number 1 in the ranking.

GPR 91 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

GPR 91 / Treyarch

The GPR 91 seems to be slightly inferior to the Model L and XM4. However, it is still a powerful assault rifle and has a case for use in the meta game. It has more difficulty at longer distances than the Model L and XM4, but performs exceptionally well at medium and close distances.

The AMES 85 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

AMES 85 / Treyarch

Now with this list we have reached the middle of the pack. The AMES 85 and AK-74 are truly interchangeable. For the purposes of this list, the AMES 85 has the advantage because the vast majority of players will find it much easier to handle over longer distances.

The most important purpose of the assault rifle is to hold angles in power positions on the map to block specific areas for your team. It’s much easier to do this with the AMES 85 than with the AK-74.

AK-74 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

AK-74 / Treyarch

The AK variant of the weapon has always had a very specific niche. It’s not the most accurate, it doesn’t have the longest range, BUT it hits like an absolute truck. It will have a hard time outperforming basically any other AR at optimal AR ranges, but at medium and close ranges the AK is king (at least among ARs).

The BO6 AK-74 is no exception. It will be difficult to beat basically any other AR at optimal AR ranges, but at medium and close ranges the AK is king (at least among ARs).

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Goblin Mk2 Assault Rifle.

Goblin Mk2 / Treyarch

This is the part of the list where we get to the simply bad weapons. Now the balance in BO6 seems relatively decent, so while these last two may be completely bad, they are not completely useless in non-competitive, regular public matches.

When ranked play comes out, using Goblin Mk2 or AS VAL in its current state may very well be trolling. It’s just lacking in many areas. It doesn’t do what better ARs do nearly as well as better ARs do. It really is that simple.

AS VAL assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

JAK VAL / Treyarch

This weapon is terrible. The built-in silencer is completely useless for most people and takes up space to mount the barrel. It lacks damage and range. It doesn’t have any great kick, but it has enough that it’s just plain bad. It’s a bad weapon. Don’t use this unless you’re going for camouflage or just having fun.
