Ryan Kobayashi, the father of missing Hawaiian woman Hannah Kobayashi, was found dead Sunday in an apparent suicide near Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to Kobayashi’s reports he jumped down from a parking lot near the airport around 4 a.m. The 58-year-old had been in Los Angeles for 13 days searching for his daughter, who disappeared after she left a connecting flight at LAX on November 8.

Family members described receiving “weird” text messages from Hannah on November 11 regarding an attempt to steal her identity, after which all calls went unanswered. Surveillance footage later showed her at a subway station on November 18, wearing black leggings, a tie-dye sweatshirt and a green backpack.

In statementThe Kobayashi family expressed deep sorrow over Ryan’s death, calling him a “pillar of the family” while urging the public to continue to focus on finding Hannah, who is believed to be in immediate danger. Anyone with information on Hannah’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 and request photos.
