Man arrested after children jumped from allegedly drunk driver’s moving truck

SCOTT CO., Ky. (LEX 18) — A Scott County man was arrested after law enforcement said he was allegedly driving his pickup truck under the influence of alcohol when two juveniles jumped out of the back and were injured, leaving one of them in a coma.

According to Scott County Sheriff’s Office documents, Austin Brooks was allegedly drinking with his girlfriend on November 22 when he ran out of beer and left for more.

When he left, two minors, his son and nephew, were in the truck and he began speeding down Porter Road near the 136 overpass in Scott County, according to a police report.

A sheriff’s office report says the two juveniles then jumped out of the truck out of fear that Brooks would drive onto the interstate.

As a result of the incident, one of the minors suffered minor injuries, while the other suffered a head injury and is currently in a coma.

A sheriff’s department report shows Brooks failed to stop and is now facing charges of wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor and leaving the scene of an accident.
