A doctor is no longer allowed to practice in two states

MIRAMAR, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A local doctor accused of removing the wrong organ from at least two patients is no longer allowed to practice in two states.

Florida Department of Health records show Thomas Shaknovsky’s license was revoked on November 14.

On Monday, the Alabama Medical Licensing Board announced he had surrendered his license.

Newschannel 7 has requested disciplinary records from Florida related to the retirement and is waiting for a response.

His new status means he is not licensed to practice in Florida, but he is not required to update his profile.

Szanowski’s license was previously suspended and a lawsuit was filed after records showed that instead of the spleen, he removed the liver of a 70-year-old man from Alabama.

William Bryan was killed last summer while he was a patient at Ascension of the Sacred Heart Hospital in Miramar.

The report found that another patient suffered “long-term, permanent impairment” after surgery in March 2023, during which a 58-year-old patient had his pancreas removed instead of his adrenal gland.

This case was settled on a malpractice claim.
