City authorities said two people, including a guard, were injured in a fire that broke out at a 22-story building in south Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. Residents stuck on the upper floors of the skyscraper were moved to the terrace as a precaution, he added. The fire broke out on the 14th floor of the ‘Ansari Heights’ building in Dongri district around 1:10 p.m., most likely due to the explosion of a cooking gas cylinder in the apartment, and spread to the 19th floor of the residential building, officials said. A city official said that firefighter Anjali Amol Jamdade, who is attached to the Mumbai Fire Brigade station in Mandavi, suffered injuries to her right arm while dousing the flames. Another person, identified as Nasir Muni Ansari, suffered 15% burns. Both were admitted to JJ Government Hospital in Byculla, Maharashtra, where their condition was stated to be stable, he added. He said the fire in the 22-story building had spread to several upper floors. Initially, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reported that the building had 15 floors and the fire broke out in an apartment on the 14th floor. “People stuck on the upper floors were moved to the terrace as a precaution because the staircase was full of smoke,” said a city official. At least 12 fire engines, other vehicles and equipment along with personnel were rushed to the spot and the flames were extinguished around 5 p.m., he added. The services reported that a fire had broken out earlier in the morning in a seven-story residential building in the Mumbai suburb of Andheri. The fire broke out at 8:42 a.m. in an apartment on the sixth floor of the “Chinchan” building and was extinguished around 9 a.m., he said, adding that no one was injured in the fire and its cause is not yet known.
