1 of 2 suspects involved in Highway 501 chase identified

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A police report has identified one of the suspects in a dangerous chase on the 501 freeway.

Horry County police arrested 19-year-old Damon Doss in connection with a Monday night chase. He was charged with possessing, concealing, selling or disposing of a stolen vehicle valued at $5,000 or more, assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest or serving a sentence, and selling or delivering a pistol to certain persons and having them in unlawful possession. records show.

According to a WMBF News police report, officers tried to stop a gray Dodge Charger that had been reported stolen in Horry County around 6:30 p.m. at Highway 378 and El Bethel Road.

HCPD said the car failed to stop, leading to a pursuit. Police deployed stop sticks, which ended the pursuit near Carolina Forest Boulevard, but the suspects fled.

The police report states that they found a stolen gun during a search of the car.

Doss was being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.

On Tuesday, HCPD said a second suspect was still at large.
