The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said a sheriff’s deputy responded to an apparent suicide attempt by a jail inmate.

The incident occurred Sunday at 5:10 p.m. at the Bexar County Jail.

A BCSO statement states that in the case of a 27-year-old woman’s suicide attempt, a deputy officer intervened during direct observation. The deputy last saw the inmate at 4:45 p.m. and observed no signs of mental disturbance.

The deputy immediately entered the cell, called for help, began using a cutting tool intended for suicide attempts and took life-saving measures.

San Antonio Fire Department paramedics and additional facility personnel also responded to the incident.

The inmate was transported to University Hospital for further treatment and was in good health at the time. The BCSO Internal Affairs Unit is currently investigating the incident.

The inmate was booked into the Bexar County Jail on June 24, 2024, on charges of assault on a public servant and harassment of a public servant.
