The University of Chattogram has suspended a student for his alleged involvement in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.

According to a notification signed by the institution’s secretary SM Shoeba, issued today (November 27), the young man is a student of the Faculty of Law of BGC Trust University Bangladesh.

The decision to suspend the student was made at a faculty meeting, the notice said.

According to university sources, the decision was taken after a photo of the said student and others with their hands in their hands went viral on Facebook. In a video circulating on the social media platform, these youths were allegedly seen involved in the murder of lawyer Alif in Chattogram yesterday.

Lawyer Alif was brutally attacked with a knife during a protest over the imprisonment of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das.

The Chattagram Metropolitan Police arrested 33 people in connection with the incident.

Police found preliminary evidence of the involvement of seven of the detainees, CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz said today.
