Tuli’s boyfriend, Aditya Pandit (27), was arrested on Tuesday after her family lodged a formal complaint. According to the police, Tuli’s uncle alleged that Pandit often harassed her, publicly humiliated her and put pressure on her to change her food preferences, including giving up non-vegetarian food.

Investigation revealed that Tuli called Pandit in the wee hours of Monday morning when he was traveling to Delhi in his car. During the telephone conversation, she reportedly expressed her intention to take her own life.

Pandit immediately returned to Mumbai, but found the apartment locked. After calling a locksmith to gain access, he discovered Tuli hanging. She was rushed to SevenHills Hospital in Andheri, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Police sources revealed that Tuli hailed from Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Mumbai since June last year. She met Pandit two years ago during a commercial piloting course in Delhi and they started dating soon after.

Pandit was charged under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for aiding and abetting suicide. He appeared in court, which temporarily arrested him until November 29.

An investigation is ongoing to clarify further details of the incident.
