Police are asking for help locating relatives of a man shot and killed on Union Avenue in May 2024

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying next of kin or next of kin for 39-year-old Javier Arellano Mata. Mata was identified as the man who died after being shot on Union Avenue in May.

Police said that on May 20, 2024, at approximately 11:31 p.m., officers were called to activate ShotSpotter in the 100 block of Union Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the shooting victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Javier Arellano Mata.

Anyone with information about Mata is asked to call Bakersfield police at (661) 327-711 or the Kern County Coroner’s Office at (661) 392-6700.

According to the police, Within a week, three people were arrested in connection with the shooting. They were identified as Dalton Thompson, William Darden and Joey Elias in the 100 block of Eye Street.

Based on the investigation, all three people were arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery, according to Bakersfield police.
