The Hollyoaks star promises Rex a huge storyline for 2025

Hollyoaks star Jonny Labey has teased that his character Rex Gallagher will be at the center of an exciting storyline next year.

Since arriving in the village earlier this year, Rex has found himself in several sticky situations. Him first began an affair with Ste Haya when in the episodes before the time jump, Chester was struggling with the crimes of gangster Blue. Rex was then revealed to be Grace Black’s long-lost brother, and now it looks like he’s reconnected with two faces from his past: newcomers Kat and Jacob.

“We have met Jacob and Kat and they are a small part of Rex’s past,” Labey said Liverpool Echo. “He was involved in various avenues of exploitation before coming to Chester and has links with these two individuals.”

The actor promised that Rex will get something “huge” in 2025 – and it looks like his connections to Jacob and Kat will have to do something about it.

“As far as I can tell, it all ties into a huge, huge plot,” he said. “They kind of plan and adjust a lot of things to make it all come together. The writing team makes sure they steer it the right way and tie everything together because there are so many intersections.”

He added: “Jacob and Kat are a huge link to who Rex was. He came from a whole dynasty of danger and crime.”

The subplot will not only concern Rex, but will reportedly affect the entire village. It will begin after what Labey described as a “nostalgic” event that will happen in the new year.

“What happens next really affects a lot of people in the village. “It really leads to something that Rex will be a huge part of next year, which is really quite tumultuous, but also gripping and it’s a huge problem in the UK and it’s a huge problem in the way people are treated,” Labey said.

“It’s not necessarily a story that gets talked about a lot, so I can tell you that, and Rex is kind of at the forefront.”

The actor added: “There’s something huge happening in the New Year that’s weirdly nostalgic for fans, so it’s really going to heat things up, but what it’s going to lead to and the world that Kat and Jacob are a part of is a much bigger picture.” “

Hollyoaks airs Monday through Wednesday with his Broadcast on Channel 4 premiere at 7:00, then broadcast on E4 on the same evening at 19:00. Full episodes are also posted on YouTube a week after their release on Channel 4.
