Five detained, a minor detained for assaulting six men

Pune: Hadapsar police on Wednesday arrested five men and detained a 16-year-old minor boy on charges of assaulting six men over previous enmity at Zed Corner in Manjari Budruk on November 25 around 10.30 p.m.
The victims, Karan Memjade (23) and Tejas Paigude (20), who sustained serious injuries, are recuperating at a private hospital in Manjari. The four other victims – Sujal Bhise, Suraj Chaudhary, Pratik Shinde and passer-by Tejas Paigude, escaped with minor injuries.
Senior Inspector Santosh Pandhare said the attackers reached Zed Corner with sharp weapons and started a dispute with five men who were playing an online game. The dispute revolved around the inappropriate behavior of one of the victims a few days ago towards a woman they knew.
Pandhare said that as the argument between the two groups escalated, the attackers abused, beat and attacked the five men with sharp weapons. “The attackers also attacked a sixth person, a passer-by, for intervening in their dispute,” Pandhare said.
“The attackers also threatened residents and created a reign of terror among them,” the officer said, adding that the injured victims were shifted to a private hospital.
Deputy Inspector Umesh Rokade said the police team collected information about the attackers and arrested or detained them at various places. The attackers were later arrested after their role in the crime was established.
The high court ordered the remand of the attackers Prem Sathe (19), Saurabh Ingale (23), Swapnil Katare (23), Sumit Barnwala (19) and Pratik Chorde (21), all from Manjari, until November 30. The minor boy was placed in an observation home after he was produced before the Yerawada Juvenile Justice Commission.
