Watch Live: Christopher Luxon and Erica Stanford Announce Math and Reading Support

Christopher Luxon and Education Minister Erica Stanford will be speaking soon. The live stream will be available at the top of this page.

Education Minister Erica Stanford says the government is expanding literacy and maths intervention support for students.

Two hundred more schools will have access to a trained literacy teacher, accelerating the achievement of students in grades K-2 who need further support, she added.

Earlier this year, the government reprioritized $33 million to support reading and early literacy, which benefited 770 schools, and reprioritized a further $5 million to meet need.

“It is critical that children who need reading support are identified early and can receive support so they can get back on track,” Stanford said.

The government was also expanding a targeted maths acceleration program for students in Years 7 and 8 who are struggling with maths.
