SINGAPORE – A Chinese national has been arrested in Pahang for kidnapping and other offenses after a man reported that his 15-year-old daughter failed to show up at school in Singapore.

In a press release, Johor Police Chief M. Kumar said the girl, also a Chinese national, was found after a raid in Kuantan, Pahang state on November 26.

He added that on November 24, the student passed through the Woodlands checkpoint in Singapore and entered Malaysia.

The girl’s father, a 48-year-old Chinese national, filed a police complaint after his daughter failed to show up at school in Singapore on November 25.

Singapore police said they received a report of a missing 15-year-old girl on November 25 at around 2:15 p.m.

Initial investigations revealed that the girl had voluntarily left Singapore unaccompanied before the report was prepared.

According to media reports, the girl’s father alerted the Johor police on November 26, which led to her being tracked down and a location in Kuantan searched the same day.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene of the raid, during which a number of items were seized, including mobile phones and clothes.

Commissioner Kumar said the accused was under investigation for kidnapping, sexual assault of a child, child trafficking and child abduction.

He added that Malaysian authorities were investigating the motive. He appealed to the public not to speculate on the matter but to contact the authorities if they had information.

Commissioner Kumar said the girl would be taken to hospital for medical examination and the suspect would remain in custody till December 2.
