A body found in a burning bin outside a church in Portsmouth has been identified

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A body was found in a burning dumpster in Portsmouth on Nov. 18 after a dumpster fire was extinguished, according to police.

According to police, the man found was 45-year-old Kurtis Lee Watson.

Dumpster fire in Portsmouth leads to discovery of dead body; the police launched a murder investigation

Watson was found in a dumpster on the grounds of Bethel Worship Center Church, and police were called around 9 p.m.

Court documents tell News 3 they found gunshot wounds to Watson’s head, back and thigh and bullet fragments in his foot.

According to police, video from a nearby home shows two unidentified people walking near the scene.

PPD is treating Watson’s death as a second-degree murder case and Watson’s family has been notified.
