Coroner’s office identifies victim of fatal Strip shooting

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in Monday’s fatal shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.

Officials said 50-year-old Michael WilmontUber driver, was shot dead outside the Palazzo on Monday afternoon.

The suspect has since been placed in custody and Metro Police have transferred the investigation to the District Attorney’s Office for self-defense consideration.

Monday’s shooting was the first of two road accidents reported this week. Metro police had not responded as of Tuesday evening another report of road rage in the west valley where two occupants of the vehicle claimed they were shot at. However, this did not cause any fatalities.

Because these events occurred so close to each other, you probably have questions about why this happened. Channel 13’s Joe Moeller went to the Las Vegas subway to ask, and they agreed: Road rabies calls have increased in Las Vegas.

Road construction is playing a role in the increase in traffic accidents Metro has responded to, some of which have been fatal, like Monday’s shooting. Roadways on and around the Strip are currently undergoing renovations dismantling the F1 race track despite the already heavy traffic.

“Intensive road works are currently underway in the valley. We’re starting to see a slight increase in shootings and a few murders,” said homicide Lt. Jason Johansson.

So what is done?

Metro Police have already stated that they are continuing to investigate the incident and, as noted above, the case has been forwarded to the District Attorney for self-defense consideration.

But state lawmakers also appear to be working on a solution. Earlier this month Senate Bill 37 was initially formulated that would prohibit people from road rage. If such a solution comes into force, violators will be charged with a misdemeanor.

Regarding the incident on the Strip, Metro is encouraging additional witnesses to come forward to the LVMPD Homicide Unit or Crimestoppers Nevada.
