South Korean authorities report that three people died as a result of heavy snowfall

For the past two days, the capital of South Korea has been covered in heavy snow

For the past two days, the capital of South Korea has been covered in heavy snow.

Authorities said heavy snowfall hit South Korea on Thursday, causing a total of three deaths and disruptions to flights and ferry services.

Officials said snow caused three deaths in Gyeonggi province around the capital Seoul, including one person who died when a tent-like garage collapsed while clearing snow.

Another died when a golf practice net collapsed extreme weather.

Prolonged snowfall led to the cancellation of the 156th flights and disrupted 104 ferry connections on 79 routes, the Ministry of Interior reported.

The second day of snowfall came after Seoul on Wednesday recorded its heaviest November snowfall since records began more than a century ago, according to the country’s weather agency. Record snowfall also marked the first snowfall in the capital this season.

The interior ministry said up to 40 centimeters of snow had fallen in some parts of the capital by 11 a.m. (0200 GMT), while snowfall in other areas outside Seoul reached almost 45 centimeters.

The second day of snowfall forced the city authorities to send 11,000 workers and 20,000 equipment to the capital.

Authorities reported 131 temporary power outages, with 46 restored by the end of Wednesday.

While a heavy snowfall advisory was lifted in Seoul, it remained in effect in many southern regions outside the capital, with some areas still seeing snowfall at a rate of about one centimeter per hour, the Korea Meteorological Administration said.
