Christianburg-Wismar High School dominated cross country

KAYMALLY Lacon had the best individual competition, but it was Christianburg-Wismar High School (C-WSS) that took the lion’s share of the spoils Saturday when the High School Athletic League held its first event, a cross-country race at the scenic Botanical Gardens.

Lacon, from Tutorial High School, performed brilliantly in the Year 10-11 boys’ 5km race, winning in 19 minutes and 35 seconds at the Botanic Gardens at the weekend.

Second place went to Malachi Melville from Christianburg-Wismar Secondary School, and third place went to Zackrey Favorite from Bygeval Secondary.

Leroy Henry from Bygeval took fourth place.

Alkila Blucher showed off her skills in the Grades 10-11 girls 4km race as Christianburg-Wismar High School again took the top four places.

Blucher, who finished the race in 17 minutes, 42 seconds, was followed by C-WSS Savannah Hyles, Shalona Mingo and Shanelia Gould.

Linden teams took home most of the spoils as their school dominated the 25-player race.

The boys 4K also saw an almost exclusive event in Linden, with Mackenzie and Christianburg-Wismar battling it out for the top five spots in the Grade 8-9 race.

Mackenzie took first place, earning praise from multi-sport athlete Ebo McNeil, who finished the race in 14 minutes, 46 seconds.

Christianburg-Wismar High School’s Bryson McBean and Omar Luther took second and third place, with schoolmate Joseph Charles taking fourth place and Mackenzie High’s Hajvaunte Adams taking fifth place.

In the boys 3K race, C-WSS’s Akeem Blucher caught schoolmate Omarion Peters at the finish line in 12 minutes and 12 seconds, stopping the clock 12 minutes and 33 seconds ahead of third-place Kyle Nurse of Mackenzie High.

Amisa Brutus from Golden Grove Secondary won the girls’ 3km balance race.

And Linden duo Keyare Whitfield of Christianburg-Wismar and Tiffuann David of Mackenzie High won silver and bronze medals.

The women from Christianburg-Wismar dominated the 2,000-meter race, easily reaching the podium.

Holiyann ​​Jarvis was first in eight minutes and 37 seconds, followed by Amiyah Johnson and Lynicia Barclay.

In the team standings, Christianburg-Wismar High School dominated the six-race program, winning five of the six races, with Golden Grove winning the other.

However, it was McKenzie High that was the second-best school in the exhibit, giving Christianburg-Wismar stiff competition in each race.
