Mavericks’ Jason Kidd provides an update on Luka Doncic

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd provided an update on the injured Dallas defenseman Luka Doncic after the injury of the main initiator of the match against New Orleans on November 19. The Mavericks have played surprisingly well in his absence, winning five of the six games in which he has been on the bench, but Dallas is still reeling from a five-time All-NBA player coming off the bench and onto the court.

“He does individual training. Everything I’ve heard and seen is going in the right direction,” Kidd said at a news conference before Wednesday’s game against the Knicks. Doncic also underwent training before the game, which is a positive sign for his eventual return to the field.

Doncic has been heavily criticized for his defensive play this season, but he has mostly been his typical offensive player, averaging 28.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game while shooting 44% from the field. While his three-point shooting was dismal, shooting just 32%, he still made a big offensive impact in other areas.

The Mavericks’ next game will be on November 30 against the Utah Jazz, a team they lost to earlier in the season in a devastating, last-second defeat. This result was part of a four-game skid they experienced earlier in the month, but from which they bounced back brilliantly. While the team has flourished in the face of this adversity, it is obviously necessary to keep Doncic healthy to compete in the crowded Western Conference.
