Jean Rather, wife of longtime news anchor Dan Rather, dies at 89

(Gray News) – Former longtime anchor Dan Rather is mourning the death of his wife, Jean Rather, according to a post on his profile. verified Facebook account.

She died of cancer at the age of 89.

“She had been in hospice for some time, but the news still comes as a shock to those of us who knew and loved her,” the post read.

Jean Rather died on Tuesday in Austin, Texas, surrounded by family, friends and works of art.

According to her obituary, Jean was an accomplished artist and her paintings and collages were shown in galleries and private collections throughout the country.

“Jean lived a full life as an amazing wife, mother, friend and artist – and a true Texan,” the Facebook post added.

She and Dan Rather enjoyed 67 years of marriage together.
