Three recent high school graduates were killed and another was seriously injured when a speeding Tesla Cybertruck crashed and burst into flames in California.

Four friends were driving home from a party in Piedmont in a futuristic electric vehicle just after 3 a.m. Wednesday when it “jumped a curb, hit a cement wall, and then became wedged between the wall and a tree,” police say. he told KGO News.

Police reported that someone driving behind them during the same incident noticed the crashed truck and managed to pull one of the passengers to safety.

Emergency services – alerted by an automatic warning sent by one of the passenger’s iPhones – found the Cybertruck “completely engulfed in flames” and were unable to save the other three stuck inside, police said.

“This is just a tragic death,” Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers said.

The chief said speed was “one of the factors” and the investigation is still looking into whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.

However, “there was no indication” that mechanical problems were to blame, he added.

Police did not identify the victims, but friends and former teachers told KGO that all four – three men and one woman – had recently graduated from Piedmont High School and were “very popular” football players.

“They’re smart, good kids,” said Sandy Martin, a middle school teacher.

“We are just devastated,” said Aileen Desoto, a mother who is friends with the families of the four victims.

The lone survivor underwent surgery for burns, but “we hope he will recover,” a family friend said.

Earlier this month, four people miraculously survived a horrific crash in Mexico that left a Tesla Cybertruck completely crushed and blown to shreds.

A stainless steel electric SUV overturned after colliding with a monument on a street in Guadalajara, Jalisco, throwing an 18-year-old girl from the vehicle while three other people were trapped in the twisted wreckage until they could be cut off by emergency crews.

Tesla has announced a slew of Cybertruck recalls this year for 2024. Elon Musk’s company made the announcement last month remembers over 27 thousand trucks due to delayed images from the reversing camera, which can impair the driver’s visibility and increase the risk of an accident.

They too voluntarily recalled thousands of trucks in April over faulty accelerator pedals that could cause fatal accidents, and issued another in June over problems wipers and exterior finishing elements.

Musk has released a Blade Runner-inspired truck to refresh the company’s aging lineup amid falling demand for electric vehicles.
