The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that two people were found dead in an unincorporated area northeast of Santa Rosa in what is believed to be a murder-suicide.

On Wednesday, a deputy conducted a welfare check in the 2000 block of Weeks Ranch Road after a person failed to show up for work.

The sheriff’s office said a sheriff’s deputy arrived and found the front door locked but unlocked and the lights in the house were on.

After being made aware of his presence and receiving no response, the deputy entered the home around 1:30 p.m. and found two people dead in what initially appeared to be a murder-suicide.

Detectives took over the case and despite the appearance of a murder or suicide, the investigation is ongoing and detectives are still working on information received, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The office will provide more information on the case as it becomes available.
