A car crashes into a house in Derwent Valley in a dramatic high-speed crash

A driver was lucky to be alive after his car crashed into a house near New Norfolk.

Anne-Marie Cate, who owns a Lyell Highway property near the motorway, said the car was traveling at about 100km/h when it hit her house on Wednesday evening.

“The fencing is seriously damaged,” she said.

“In the bedroom, he knocked equipment off the walls and moved the cabinet by 5-10 cm.”

Significant damage to the property’s fence was reported

Cate and her husband run a tattoo studio out of their home and planned to hold an open house the day after the accident.

“(We) were rushed in tonight. I will still be open for Opening Day tomorrow. We just need to clean up a bit,” she told customers.

CCTV recorded the moment the car crashed into the house

“We’re fine and maybe when you get here we’ll have a new decoration in the garden in my studio, so please enjoy the view.”

It is assumed that the car belonging to a 56-year-old man from Moonah did not enter the bend, went through the fence of the house and came to rest on the wall.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The causes of the crash are still under investigation and no charges have been laid at this stage,” a Tasmania Police spokesman told Pulse on Monday.
