Injured South Africa all-rounder Mulder will miss the rest of the Test series in Sri Lanka

DURBAN, South Africa: South Africa have recalled batsman Matthew Breetzke in place of Wiaan Mulder after the all-rounder was ruled out of the remainder of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka with a broken finger.

Mulder injured his right middle finger while batting in South Africa’s first innings on the second day of the first Test at Kingsmead on Thursday.

He left due to injury but returned as the last batsman before South Africa were dismissed for 191 at lunch.

Mulder didn’t bowl as Sri Lanka were bowled out after a record-low Test score of 42, but he made a surprise return to the top spot as No. 3, moving up the batting order in South Africa’s second innings in last Thursday’s session.

He looked troubled as he scored 15 before being trapped lbw, which was his last contribution.

The 26-year-old will be sidelined for about a month.

Breetzke will arrive for the second test in Gqeberha, which starts next Thursday.
