A man who paid just over $1,000 to have a beard transplant at a popular European destination as a low-cost plastic surgery operation has tragically taken his own life.

Mathieu Vigier Latour saved money $1,300 to pay for an operation that would cost five times as much in his home country France. However, after unsuccessful attempts at surgery by the “surgeon”, Latour discovered his true profession.

The 24-year-old went to Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, in March for treatment, as a result of which he suffered from a serious illness body dysmorphic disorder.

According to Cleveland Clinic, that is sanity a condition that causes you to perceive your appearance in an unfair way – thoughts and feelings related to your appearance appearance it can consume you and influence your thoughts and actions.

During the transplant, the “surgeon” took 4,000 hair grafts from the head and placed them on the face, losing 1,000 hair grafts in the process.

After the transplant, Latour discovered that the man who performed his treatment was not even a qualified surgeon, but a real estate agent.

His father, also named Mathieu Vigier Latour, told broadcaster BFM TV: “When he started growing up, he looked like a hedgehog and was unmanageable.”

A student who was studying missed the operation business at home in France, with an irregularly shaped beard that grew at an unnatural angle – and the burns he suffered from the procedure also caused sleeping difficult for him due to discomfort.

His dad he explained: “He was suffering, he wasn’t coping well. He was in pain, had burns and couldn’t sleep.”

To help correct the procedure, his family found a specialist in neighboring Belgium, but when he was told by the doctor that the part of the scalp from which the hair had been cut would never regenerate, Latour went into post-traumatic shock.

Three months later, he tragically took his own life life in his student apartment in Paris.

“He got into a vicious circle and couldn’t get out of it,” his father added.

“If this testimony could prevent this from happening again and alert everyone, I think it would be a tribute to Mathieu.”
