Detroit man charged in Harrison Twp. burglary, police chase

A Detroit man has been charged in connection with an alleged burglary and police pursuit that took place this week in Macomb County.

Joseph Calderon, 45, was arraigned on 13 counts Thursday in 41st District Court in Clinton Township, according to a news release from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Of the 13 charges against Calderon, 12 were for felonies, including third-degree fleeing from a police officer, unlawful escape and burglary.

His bail was set at $25,000, payable in cash or surety, according to the release. As of Thursday, Calderon was still in the Macomb County Jail.

As of Friday morning, no attorney was listed in online court records as representing Calderon.

According to the release, Macomb County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 41900 block of Irwin Drive around 3 a.m. Tuesday after hearing a report of a break and enter.

Deputies learned that Calderon allegedly cut a fence to gain access to the property and then drove away in a stolen car.

Deputies pursued Calderon and used arrest batons when he refused to stop, according to the release. Calderon allegedly continued to flee even after losing a tire until the stolen car stopped in a field.

Dash camera and body camera footage showed MCSO deputies chasing Calderon from the streets into a field as light snow began to fall.

He allegedly fled from there on foot and hid in the bushes until a K9 found him.

Deputies arrested him at the scene and recovered two electric bikes, batteries, tools and the stolen car.

Two deputies also suffered minor injuries during the pursuit and were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the release.

Roseville police are investigating the incident arresting two men Macomb County robbery suspect following another police chase last week.

The suspect was killed and the policeman was injured after approx shooting and car chase in Jackson earlier this month. Police later found pipe bombs in the suspect’s car.

Chesterfield Township police also arrested a driver after approximately car chase and a crash on Interstate 94 in October. The driver allegedly tried to flee even after police punctured two tires of his car.
