One person has died and another was injured while surfing on the New York subway

Police in New York are investigating after two passengers who were surfing on the subway on Sunday fell between subway cars, leaving one dead and one hospitalized.

The New York Police Department’s Office of the Deputy Commissioner said that at approximately 10:48 p.m. Sunday, a person called the New York Police Department about the incident. The caller said a person was hit by a train at the 111th Street subway station, part of the 115th Precinct, which covers northern Queens.

According to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, the southbound train ‘7’ hit the passengers.

The office did not release the ages of the passengers, but local television stations did WNYW AND WABC stated that they were teenagers.

The deputy commissioner’s office confirmed to USA TODAY that one of the passengers died at the scene and the other was taken to hospital with a head injury. The condition of the second passenger is said to be critical.

According to WABC, the girls boarded the subway at the Flushing Main St. station. and were reportedly murdered surfing in the subwaythe trend of people riding on wagons.

They ran along the westbound subway and jumped between cars. When the train stopped, the girls lost their balance and one of them fell under the train, the station reports.

She also suffered a brain hemorrhage, according to WABC. The outlet reported that the girls did not have identification with them, so police were unable to notify their families.

The Deputy Commissioner’s Office said the identity of the deceased is not being established at this time.

The death and injury follows a series of other subway surfing incidents

Last year, five people died while surfing on the subway, WABC reports.

The girl’s death is the sixth death of a girl while subway surfing this year, according to WABC. Last week, a 13-year-old boy collapsed and died while surfing in the subway at the Forest Avenue subway station in Queens.

The next day, a 20-year-old man died in similar circumstances WNBC.
