A Sanford legislator turned himself in after an alleged domestic violence assault

Oct. 26 – A Maine state representative appeared Monday morning after Sanford police arrested him for alleged domestic violence assault.

Police confirmed Saturday that the Sanford Police Department had issued an arrest warrant for state Rep. Lucas Lanigan. The police were looking for him all weekend.

Lanigan, a Republican, represents the 141st District, which includes parts of Shapleigh, Newfield, Sanford and Springvale.

Sanford Police Major Mark Dyer reported to the York County Jail around 9:30 a.m. Monday, according to Sanford Police Department Maj. Mark Dyer. Dyer said the robbery was reported to police on Friday, but did not elaborate on what exactly Lanigan is accused of, saying the investigation is ongoing.

Lanigan was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and is running for re-election in November, defeating Democrat Patricia Kidder. He lives in the Springvale section of Sanford.
