Lawrence police are investigating a shooting that happened early Sunday morning downtown

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – Lawrence police were investigating a shooting that occurred downtown Sunday.

According to a post on the Lawrence Police Department’s Facebook page, the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday near 8th and New Hampshire streets. The location was a block east of Massachusetts Street, the city’s main downtown thoroughfare.

Authorities said people called police, saying they heard fighting and gunshots.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg.

During the incident, the police managed to talk to the victim Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Department Physician Doctors treated him before he was taken to the hospital, authorities said.

The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The services added that the attackers fled the area and investigators were called to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
