This is the sixth death of a surfer on the subway this year. Just last week, a A 13-year-old boy died while surfing on the subway at the Forest Avenue subway station, also in Queens.

Last year, five people died while surfing on the subway.

Mayor Eric Adams said he was devastated by the news of the latest death.

“It breaks my heart to hear that subway surfing and the pursuit of social media influence have stolen another life,” Adams said. “We’re doing everything we can to raise awareness of this dangerous trend, but we need all New Yorkers – and our social media companies – to do their part.
