Pedestrian Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Philadelphia: Witnesses – NBC10 Philadelphia

Witnesses told NBC10 that a man suffered a serious leg injury after being struck Monday morning in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood.

Sandi Weckesser told NBC10 the crash occurred on Wayne Avenue and involved a pedestrian and several vehicles, including a dark pickup truck and a Toyota SUV.

“I thought the jet had crashed,” Weckeseer said. “That’s what I heard.”

Olivia Walsh, another witness, told NBC10 the man was pinned between two vehicles.

“As soon as I got here, he was screaming in pain and losing a lot of blood,” Walsh said. “They tried to put a tourniquet on his leg. The leg was completely shattered.”

Walsh said her neighbors ran to help the man and the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash. According to Walsh, the driver then fled.

“The driver tried to get out of the car. He couldn’t get out,” Walsh said. “People were going to try and help him get out. He kicked the door open, got out, stopped and looked at everyone. And we were like, “Are you okay?” Need help? Because look how serious this car accident is. And he jumped.

Video from SkyForce10 showed what appeared to be election leaflets scattered along the road at the crash site.

“I believe there was someone behind him who had fliers and just dropped everything to help him, and that’s how they got scattered in the street,” Walsh said.

Residents told NBC10 that accidents often occur on the stretch of Wayne Avenue near Walnut Lane, and speed is often a factor.

“We need speed bumps for all six blocks where the three schools are located,” Weckesser said.

Although witnesses spoke to NBC10, police have not yet released any details about the crash or whether they are looking for suspects.
